My Father, the selfless humanitarian

Because of my attachment to the California National Guard and six months of training (boot camp and helicopter mechanic school) starting in January, no employer with flight positions will touch me with a ten foot pole. You would think I have the bubonic plague!

As a result I have been forced to find work elsewhere in the form of a temp position doing essentially whatever they tell me to do. I don’t always complain (LIAR!), that was just a bad morning, plus they pay pretty well. I’ll most likely stick with this until I ship out. My Dad on the other hand, is always trying to find me a job that usually has nothing to do with aviation and some other hidden agenda. This is his latest suggestion, completely unedited:

I was driving up Beach today, on my way to work,
and as I passed by Sport Chalet I got to thinking..
What if you got a part time job there ?? Yeah, and
after 30 days, your employee discount kicks in.. Then,
we (I) score some new boots and skis !! Sweeeeet…
Come on, it’s a great idea.. They know up front
that you are only there until the end of Dec, but they
are thrilled with the idea, as this helps then thru
peak sales, and they don’t have to worry bout keepin’
ya on after the holidays.. The fact that I (you)
score some deals on boots, skis, a jacket ‘n pants,
etc, is just their way of saying thanks, to a valued
employee !!
Let me know what you think.. This is gonna be
great.. Not to mention the fact that Luanne won’t be
able to yell at me for buying new gear.. Much, anyway?
Boy, this gets better and better the more I type
about it.. :-)

Hmmm, let me think about this one. First, I would have to find a way to squeeze a part time job into the 50-55 hour work weeks I am already working. We won’t even mention training for the marathon. Second, I would most likely take a rather large pay cut at said new job. Last, I would most likely work weekends thereby negating any benefits reaped for skiing this season. Am I missing anything? I appreciate the thought Dad, but no thanks.

    It’s not like I’m not trying to make life easier for YOU.. I even spoke some more to Luanne on the issue of Pizza, and making ‘juuuuuust the way you like it’ !
    Who else is out there in the morning, running along with you, for no other reason than to encourage you on ? To bring comfort, to console, and to buoy you up.. To emobolden your spirt, to fortify your determination to do well in this worthy and invigorating (mental as well as physical) endeavor..
    Look hard oh son of mine.. Look to the right.. Look to the left.. The others, where have they gone ?
    What excuses have you endured of late ? “I’m busy”.. “My running shoes are in the shop for repairs”.. “I hyper extended my lower back when I parked too far from the pickup window at In-N-Out “.. Need I go on ? (And you know me, I DO go on !! hahaha)
    Oh, but ring up the old man and what do you hear ? “You name the time, I’ll be there !” You betcha.. Bring your fav sports drink down to ya son ? Nooooo prob.. I’m there for ya.. Cold beverage in hand..
    And so, I ask those of you reading along, does this sound like the actions of a mind intent on self gain ? Someone ‘working an angle’ ? I say “Not so !”..
    I say “many good, nay, noble qualities are all but apparent for those that can but take a moment to reflect on the goodness that is ‘your father’ !
    I also say, it is time to stop drinking too much coffee in the morning, before reading ones emails, and/or, ones son’s blog !! hahahhaa…
    Hey, is that a strom cloud over those hills ?? Looks like rain.. No, better yer, SNOW !!! Yes !! Tis time to sharpen ones edges, metaphoricaly as well as with grind stone and file.. Powder waits for no man !!!
    Now if I can just find someone with some ‘extra’ lift tics… Hmmmmm ? ?
