The Dukes of Hazzard

Day 7

Does anyone else find it odd when the Army sits you down to watch a movie about a car named the General Lee with a Confederate flag painted on it that drives around the Deep South on Martin Luther King Day?

Yeah, neither did I or the majority of the crowd sitting around me that tended to run of the darker colors. Then again they seemed to not really care with Jessica Simpson running around the whole time.

We haven’t done anything else today so I guess it’s time to review Dukes. Character placement was actually pretty good with Burt Reynolds as Boss Hogg and Willie Nelson as Uncle Jessie. Everyone else just seemed to be placed by who is hot right now. The storyline stayed pretty true to Hazzard style shenanigans, but it just didn’t feel right without Waylon Jennings narrating the movie. I’d give it maybe a ten minute lashing from the Drill Sergeant, something worth about 50 pushups.

Into the Blue

Day 6

That’s right, you read the title right. Because it’s the weekend, the base shuts down and we can’t do a darn thing. So they march us the 100 yards to eat and then back down to the barracks to twiddle our thumbs. Today, they put us in the chapel/auditorium and made us watch Into the Blue.

I had no desire to watch this film, I had no choice to watch this film. Put all the people in movies that I hate (Paul Walker, Jessica Alba) and then a horrible script and you have all the 18 year olds hooting and hollering for Alba in her bikini. You just don’t understand how ready I am for Basic. And since I can’t rate these movies using the crossword system we’ll go to the Drill Sergeant system. I would have rather pissed off a DS all day than watch that movie. Bad. Bad. Bad. Bad. Connelly, you’ll enjoy it!!!!

I can’t wait until tomorrow, they’re threatening us with The Dukes of Hazzard! Ugh.

A New Look

Day 5

I have never had my hair cut shorter than I did today. Nor did it help that the temperature dropped below 35 degrees. Luckily, we got our field jackets so that made things a bit easier. My head has never been colder!

The funniest part is that they make us pay for our haircuts! And of course the more cuts the barbers do, the more they get paid, so there isn’t a lot of “carefulness” around the ears or anything else for that matter! Everyone’s scalps were raw and bright red! They even clipped a mole on this one guy’s head that started bleeding like a mad man. I think he’s still at med-quarters. Anyway, I have a nice shiny white scalp now.  Feels like a brillo pad!
