Moving Targets

23.Feb.2006

So this whole qualification thing may be harder than I first thought. Everyone has a 2 day lead on me, but that shouldn’t matter or so I thought. There are 3 targets on this range, one at 75 meters, 175 meters and 300 meters. The target is a basic silhouette of the human body from the waist up. The 75 meter target is smaller, about from the armpits up. Did I mention the targets move? I thought so. The 75 meter target pops up for 3-5 seconds, the 175m for 5-7 seconds and the 300m stays up for 8-10 seconds. You also get multiple targets at the same time on occasion. You fire from the prone (lying down) supported (sand bags) position, the prone unsupported (no sand bags) and the kneeling position. Getting the idea that we’re constantly moving yet?

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the temperature never got above 35 degrees today. And no, you do not wear gloves while firing. Passing for the day: 27 out of 44. Shoup: 28 out of 44 on the first run. Shoup is not a happy camper. Shoup on the second run: 26 out of 44. Shoup is now in the stages of what Beni would call “pissed!” This is not your standard pissed.

We go back to the sim tomorrow and then qualify Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I will not be happy until I shoot Expert: 36 out of 40. Something had better change. Fast!

  2. hmmm… hope for the change in the weather, mikey. once it’s warmer, it’ll be easier to shoot, for sure. oh, yeah… and try not to piss the DS off as much, then you won’t get smoked as much, then you’ll have a steadier arm, coz you’ll be doing less push-ups. may the schwartz be with you in the quest for the Expert rating…

no look, sir… please pick a movie. is it going to be “the karate kid” or “the star wars”. they take place in different galaxies, and it’s been proven that nobody can be in two places at the same time. :)

  3. Do ney loh moh !
‘The’ ?? ‘The’ ??? There is no “THE” in the title of either of those movies.. DOH !! :-) Not to mention that the first reference was based on the tv show Kung Fu, staring David Carridine as Shaolin monk in training Kwai Chang Caine, 1972-1975, being prodded along by the blind Master Po.. A great show for it’s time.. Say, you could prob NetFlix it ? Opps, I forgot.. You don’t DO NetFlix..
    ..
On another note, does Young Frankenstien ring any bells ?? Hmmmmmmmm ?

  4. FIRST AND FOREMOST, keep in mind that i’m a foreigner… english is merely my second language. and since my knowledge in the cinematography department seriously lags (i don’t really have THAT much time on my hands, to familiarize myself with EVERY movie on the NetFlix list), i cannot be held responsible for butchering a couple of titles here and there… i’m sure George Lucas won’t have a coronary, if he finds out that somebody dropped a “the” in front of the name of his trilogy. :)
yes, that’s Frankenste-EEEEN. :) and i promise that it’ll be back in your possession sooner than later. let me just watch it a couple of more times. it’s almost as good as Spaceballs. almost….
p.s. did you see how i skipped “the” in front of Spaceballs? i’m a fast learner… be impressed, be VERY impressed! :)

  6. i do not lurk! what am i? a shark???
i need breaks when i’m roasted in corporate hell, and i use this one as an outlet. :)
thanks mikey, for keeping the peons entertained…
anyhow, mt. low, ahem… high is going to be fantasic, i’m sure. however, mammoth will be pretty much epic, if i may say so myself… looks like it might be snowing every day when we are there. oh, well… that might provide for some gloomy conditions, but also, it’ll definitely provide for some fresh powder. a worthy trade-off, if you ask me.. sorry, to be telling you all this. then again, maybe not… (incert bronx cheer). so there! :)
