MOS Q’D

7.Jul.2006

The last test is done. We are officially Blackhawk mechanics. I’m probably more excited to be done with that awful schedule.  We can finally sleep when it’s dark out!

Anderson says hi. Strohmeyer says he’s looking for a girl. The rest of us are pulling the Army standard of hurry up and wait for graduation on Tuesday. That is all we have left to do. It can’t come soon enough.

Six days, Five nights

5.Jul.2006

Not that I’m really watching the clock until I get out of here but there are 155 hours, 2 minutes, and 29 seconds until Ft. Eustis is in my rear view mirror. Snags and hang-ups pending, of course.

There are only two days left on this horrific vampire schedule and they cannot end fast enough. I am so happy I opted not to fly cargo for the sole reason of flying on the backside of the clock. I don’t know how those people do it.

I’ll sneak a movie review in here too since I can’t really think of anything worth saying. Superman Returns is not all that great a movie. Take all of this with the fact that I’m not that much of a Superman fan to begin with, I prefer Batman. I’m convinced the writers of this movie heard Five For Fighting’s song “Superman” and thought ‘hey, that’s a great premise for a new Superman movie!’ No, it really wasn’t.

They essentially picked up where Superman IV left off and trodded along in the same old fashion. Kevin Spacey had so much potential as Lex Luthor and they didn’t use it. The new guy playing Superman might as well change his name to Christopher Reeve, Jr. and I really didn’t like anyone else. Even the effects looked a little too computerish at times. I guess I was just expecting much more for such an iconic character.

There is a somewhat interesting twist that could take this whole storyline in a new direction, but I’m thinking it may fall flat on it’s face. Especially if the comic book side of the house doesn’t follow suit. Time will tell, I guess, if anyone really cares.

This movie is definitely only for the die hard Superman fans and I think even they will find it lacking.
